Drawing and painting for me are a way to work through feelings and ideas. I tend to move across different styles and have recently produced a body of abstracts. I have favoured water-based media (watercolour, paper, pencils) for some time. These works are an exploration of the figurative in the abstract, in part psychological, in part formal. Even colour and line can tell a story it seems, and demonstrate allegorical qualities, just like representative work.
I also maintain a representational theme of the bucolic and of animals. For example, it might be animals playing in a band, in a boat, or simply in repose under a bush. Dragons, and other mythological creatures such as Pan are fair game too. This is partly motivated by a desire to experiment with childrens’ literature, which in turn was inspired by wanting to get access to the “child’s world” as a creative source.
